day ninety-five - face for radio

radio_face.jpg

It would seem that 7:30am is actually a time, and it sucks beyond the telling. After finally getting to sleep at 4am, I packed in one hundred and fifty minutes of the lousiest sleep only to be awoken at 6:30am to the Apple classic “By the Seaside”, and then again at 6:40… and 6:50… and 7:00.

I don’t know why it’s so hard to get to sleep, yet so hard not to go back to sleep when it’s time to wake up. I hedged my bets and gave myself an hour to become human, and have some small chance of being lucid and cogent for the upcoming radio interview - and to attempt to drink a cup of tea whilst having the nervous shakes. This wasn’t terribly successful, but at least my hands warmed up quickly!

And before I know it, the producer had me on the line, ready to go on with Ray Terrill - the smoothest voice in the North East, and presenter of ABC Saturday Mornings.

The interview was a blur. I’m sure I said stuff, but it became really clear that I don’t know what this thing is about - or at least I don’t know how to frame it eloquently, and certainly not at that hour. It felt like I was being asked simple questions but it would take too long to process the answers, so a stream of words would choke my brain as I scrambled to get to the point.

Relive the horrors below around the 1h 30m mark with the podcast link below. I’m still working out if I can.

Ray, mate, I’m sorry. You were very kind. Thanks for the opportunity to have a chat.

I had such lovely support both before and after. That meant the world, and helped to give some perspective. Thank you.
