day eighty-five - wave
It started with a wave. A simple gesture of humanity between strangers. As my mother would sit by the window, a Father and Daughter would walk the path alongside their house. Each day, without a word, they would wave, smile, and go about their day. After a while, as routines changed, they would look in and she wouldn’t be there.
Last week, there was a knock on my parents door. He and his family (standing back at a sensible distance), had come to say hello, and to check in to see if everything was ok as they hadn’t seen her in a while.
As they talked, they learned that Mum was sitting there as she recovered from an illness. He said that he was a pharmacist and asked if there was anything he could do to help, if she was having difficulty getting any medication, and offered to help should the need arose.
It was a beautiful, touching story, and shows that even in these times, even when the darkest days seem to be at our doorstep, that people are kind, people care, people give.
And it all started with a wave. A simple gesture of humanity between strangers.
