day eighty-four - acceleration due to idiocy - part 1

Today marks the first anniversary of a small, seemingly innocuous error of judgement, but one with far reaching ramifications.

I’d had a really busy stretch of gigging with Jared, culminating in a 6 or 7 hour gig at Public House. It was on a local public holiday where people donned their best/most ridiculous clothing, imbibed far more than the recommended daily (or annual) allowance of alcohol, all in honour of losing ones hard earned watching small, silken-clad men with short sticks riding strangely named, large, expeditious quadrupeds who were probably just hoping not to get shot shortly after.

By then end, after fending off drunkards soaking up the floor drippings whilst doing the worm, or people shouting requests mid-song, we were buggered. We packed down and parted ways about 1:45am. I headed off to my work to open the gate and get to my car, but the chain around the gate was stuck.

Whilst trying to lift it with one foot and force it open, it gave way. Like the stallions from earlier in the day, I burst through the gates, down a small ramp, loosing my footing. Rather than just taking the fall, I tried to save it, which only accelerated me into the back of my waiting car or as was later described on my x-ray forms - “Trauma - Pedestrial vs Parked Car”.

I impacted with a combination of hand and head, knocking me clean out…

yes… that’s my head print.

yes… that’s my head print.
