day twenty four - update two
Ok… twenty four days in and overall, it’s been an unexpected, spectacular start to this ridiculous year in a kilt!
So far;
I’m still getting some really weird looks from the general public. Whilst I’m so used to it, It seems that a big bloke in a kilt and a silly-big beard is still very much out of place around here.
Many people have been surprisingly open to talking and tremendously supportive. (There have even been some incredibly humbling invitations and opportunities to be involved in the wider community in the future).
I’ve had 23 1/2 days of feeling good and symptom free (and a fairly lousy, but thankfully short-lived, half day with depression and doubt).
I’ve walked about 237,600 steps and 217.5kms (and feel really good within myself about it - but am now confined to minimal exercise for the next week or so).
We got through the radio interview at 2REM 107.3, which, in retrospect, was a lot of fun., and certainly not worth all the worry. (Thanks to all involved for making it such an easy and enjoyable process).
I’ve found how much I enjoy writing the journal, but whilst I’ve written a post everyday, I have sometimes taken a little while to take them from paper and put them on computer, edit and post them (sorry… I’m trying!)
Realised just how empowering it is to be so open and honest (even if it’s mildly terrifying).
The Facebook page has over 200 followers, and this site has had a whopping 1,600 page views from afar places such as Croatia, Singapore and Sweden! (all of which feels amazing, and frankly does my head in)
I have 5 kilts on the way with an eye on a 6th!!
Four from Sport Kilt who made my original Ross Modern Hunting Tartan Kilt that I’m trying hard to wear out, but it just doesn’t die!
One MacLeod ‘Original Works’ kilt (ancestral tartan)
One MacKay ‘Original Works’ kilt (ancestral tartan)
Another Ross modern hunting ‘Original Works’' kilt (but a size smaller as I’m losing weight from all the walking)
One Black Stewart weathered ‘Hiking’ kilt (not ancestral, but in honour of my mate Steve Stewart, owner of Blackline Music)
One 2nd hand traditional tartan in Campbell of Argyle (which I found out links me back to my 9th great grandfather, Kenneth Campbell, born around 1660 to 1670!)
All in all, it’s been a really remarkable start to the year and the project. I couldn’t have imagined it going better. Please accept a most humble and sincere thank you to everyone that has been a part of this journey so far.
