day four - burning hot

It got up to 46.1ºc in Albury today. Humidity fell to 4%, and winds were gusting to 61 km/h. It was officially our hottest day on record. Sadly, there’s little to no evidence to show that this record won’t tumble again, and soon.

Add to this the bushfires raging so close to home, with family and friends either evacuated, staying back to help defend their homes, businesses and communities, or having already lost everything in the inferno, it was a day filled with stress and worry for the future.

Whilst I was reassured that my family and I were prepared and away from imminent danger, I knew that one of the myriad of problems brought about the fires would be people broken, traumatised and entire communities dealing with mental health issues for many years to come.

It’s comparatively far easier to rebuild homes than lives.
