day one hundred and eighty-three - dry july

Dry July.jpg

Most of us have heard of Dry July; a month without alcohol to raise funds for various cancer organisations. Some of us may have considered it in the past and fewer still have done it. This year, for the first time, I’m joining the ranks.

Alcohol and depression have a long, sad history with many studies linking the two, and yet, after a long day, many of us seek solace at the bottom of a glass.

Lately, I’ve not been doing well, and knowingly doing something that compounds the problems is counterproductive at best.

So this month, not only do I hope to give something back to The Leukemia Foundation (my chosen organisation) who helped me and my family so much last year when a family member was battling leukemia, but also as an experiment to see if my alcohol intake is negatively affecting my mental health.

With the support of family and friends, some of whom are doing Dry July along with me (unending thanks), it will be interesting to see what shape I’m in this time next month.
