day one hundred and seventy-four - brighter days

With the longest night behind us comes the promise of lengthening light - a journey gradually towards brighter days.

Last night was also the first online Winter Solstice event broadcast across the globe. While it was an entirely different atmosphere than it usually is, there was something beautiful about feeling the same connection whilst being seperated.

The speakers, as always, were powerful, honest, and affecting, as were the artists and musicians who performed throughout the evening.

Personally, I found Jonny Benjamin MBE, a mental health campaigner from the UK, to be the one whose story impacted me the most. Rather than try to paraphrase his story, I urge you all to watch the broadcast again, and to follow the links to his page.

Whilst this event was born in tragedy, it’s amazing that our community has come together, through the strength of one family and now the group Survivors of Suicide and Friends. They now offer hope, not just locally, but to people and communities around the globe. I have nothing but thanks, respect and love for them.
