day forty-eight - update four

Dad and I

Well, It’s a multiple of twelve, so It’s time for update four (which happens to be the only single digit number that has the same number of letters in its name).

There has been a lot happening lately;

  • I completed the 10km City2City Walk & Talk event between Albury and Wodonga.

  • Performed in a Bushfire Benefit Performance with world class musicians. (Which was such a treat. There was an incredible sense of community and all the funds raised are going to mend and rebuild fences in the Upper Murray).

  • Got to perform a composition I cowrote with my Father for the second time.

  • Unexpectedly spoke with Gaye Pattison from the ABC about Kilt Life Crisis to a packed house during the interval at the Bushfire gig.

  • … and now there’s some talk about possibly being interviewed on ABC radio!

  • Found out about “The Big Splash”. An annual event held at the Albury Pool on the first Wednesday in March. This is a major fundraiser for Survivors of Suicide and Friends, and Headspace Albury/Wodonga. it looks like a tremendous event! https://alburywodongabigsplash.com.au/

  • Enrolled in a St John’s Ambulance “Mental Health and Crisis Support” Course (CHCCCS019 Recognise and respond to crisis situations). They run them all over the country, but mine is on Wednesday, 25th of March in Albury if anyone is keen to come along. There were plenty of places available when I enrolled.

  • I organised for some promotional items to be made, so now I have t-shirts, signage on my car, business cards and even a mug emblazoned with the Kilt Live Crisis message.

  • New Kilts arrived (though I’m going to have to keep exercising to fit my ample frame into some of them).

  • I’ve healed and am ready to get back into daily walking.

  • I’ve succumbed to man'-flu, so I’m absolutely not ready to get back to daily walking.

  • Have done many school pick-ups and drop-offs with parents and kids often looking at me very strangely.

  • Have taught many lessons and I think people are getting used to me in a kilt at work.

  • Experiencing patches of depression, but at a far lower rate than in previous years.

  • Experienced some of the worst performance anxiety I’ve had in over three years, almost resulting in a panic attack… but made it through.

  • I am looking at a range of different events throughout the year to incorporate into the project.

  • Still amazed with the support I’m receiving from the community, with lovely well-wishes, comments and readership.

  • I’m starting to feel more confidence in the project, but I’m really wanting it to grow. There will only be a small percentage of people who are reading and connecting with this that will actually get a benefit from it. So, if this gets far bigger and has more reach, while the percentage won’t change, the number of people positively affected will - and that’s what I’m aiming for. Not to be a sideshow, but to make positive change.

All in all, quite a productive 12 days really. It seems bizarre to be this far in already. There’s so much yet to do, and I’m already feeling the pinch of December being so close. I’d better get cracking!

Much Love!
