Like so many things I do, it started as a stupid idea.

Stuck at home during lockdown, I knew that my plans for major fundraisers for 2020 were impossible. Events were cancelled across the board and it was looking like becoming a fairly ineffectual year where I lived like a kilted recluse; not starting conversations, not making a difference.

I knew that I’d watch le Tour de France (the world’s premier cycling tour) as I have for many years. There’s something beautiful about cycling. The camaraderie and teamwork, the solo efforts, the gruelling punishment they put themselves through, the races within the race… so many aspects of it appeal to me.

So I had the option of yet again sitting on the couch with some fine cheeses, a good wine, brandy or absinthe, trying not to fall asleep whilst observing these seemingly superhuman feats… or something different.

I decided to walk along with the tour dragging out our seldom used treadmill and organising the lounge room to cope with the next 3+ weeks.
